The pace and impact of digital innovation can be unsettling. It appears that nothing is sacred – least of all traditional business models. However, while the potential is very exciting, it’s not so much the technology itself but what you do with it that matters most.
We see the role of the CIO expanding. He or she must be prepared to be the evangelist for innovation in the enterprise. They must be inspired by the potential opportunities of new technology, but also maintain a firm grip on the realities of the big business picture. They must balance and accommodate the demand for innovation, while keeping the wheels spinning with existing customers and processes. It is these pragmatic champions of innovation who will drive the enterprise forward.
