Small Business, Big IT Support
Small and medium businesses have struggled to access the high-quality IT support and services of large enterprises. That’s about to change.
As the owner of a small or medium business (SMB), how do you and your people get support and service for your devices, applications and other aspects of IT? Is your business secure and protected against cyber-attacks?
In all those cases, you cross your fingers and hope you get a service rep who knows what he’s talking about. You’re never sure how much it will cost, whether the problem will be fixed right the first time, or if your valuable company data will remain protected.
It’s exactly those needs that are the impetus behind Tech-Zone, a new IT walk-up services company powered by CompuCom®. “IT support just hasn’t been keeping up with the pace of technology change that growing businesses face,” says Dan Stone, Tech-Zone president. “Tech-Zone will change that dynamic.”
By delivering the most in-demand IT support and services, efficiently and cost-effectively, Tech-Zone “provides proactive solutions that fix technology issues even before they occur,” Stone says.
Best Practices in a Box
Tech-Zone reflects a trend in IT support: IT walk-up service centers. Augmenting the Service Desk, IT walk-up services allow employees to interact face-to-face with technicians and quickly get their technology problems solved.
Inside Tech-Zone, customers have access to a broad range of hardware and software support and services. Those services are delivered by trained and experienced staff — the same level of expertise CompuCom provides enterprise clients. That experience is backed by best practices and standardized processes for protecting corporate data.
Tech-Zone offers numerous packaged solutions. A key offering is Tech-Zone Pro Services, which provides expert preventive maintenance and IT repair. Tech-Zone Pro Services cover:
- An annual technology consultation.
- Preventive maintenance services.
- A 30-minute technician visit at the customer location twice a month.
- As-needed repair visits at reasonable rates.
CareGuard covers computer hardware, software, operating systems, mobile platforms and antivirus/spyware. Packages cover up to 15 users, up to 49 users or up to 99 users.

Getting a Break on Break-Fix
Tech-Zone partners with leading technology vendors, such as Dell® and HP®, to help businesses procure the right technologies. But McMillan is quick to point out that Tech-Zone technicians can service virtually every brand.
Tech-Zone also offers some of the latest devices for sale, like the forthcoming HP Elite X3 smartphone/tablet. And some locations will include options such as 3D scanning and 3D printing.
Tech-Zone is also focused on clear pricing. “Unclear costs for IT services and repairs have long been an issue for SMBs,” McMillan notes. “So we’ve established flat rates for common repairs, and we tell you how much it will cost before we fix it.”
The flagship Tech-Zone store opened in Charlotte, N.C., in April. Three other stores in the Charlotte area are also up and running. “The goal is to roll out about 500 stores across the country over the next two to three years,” McMillan says.
“Tech-Zone packages all the knowledge and expertise of CompuCom in a retail-based point of access for SMBs,” McMillan concludes. “We can diagnose and solve pretty much any type of IT problem. And overall, we can also help you figure out how to make IT work better for your business.”
Tech-Zone isn’t just for SMBs. Large enterprises can also take advantage of its unique approach to IT walk-up services.
“Especially for enterprises with smaller offices or remote employees who don’t have easy access to corporate IT support, Tech-Zone is an ideal solution,” McMillan says.
Enterprises have access to many of the same Tech-Zone solutions as SMBs. Enterprise employees can stop into Tech-Zone to consume services. Or, Tech-Zone technicians can be dispatched on-site.
“Enterprises that require ad-hoc IT support for remote offices and employees face the same challenges as SMBs,” McMillan notes. “With Tech-Zone, they get the same advantages.”
